Balsamic Caramelized Onions

“Sweet and rich from all the caramelization of the natural sugars, it’s a must have topping on hamburgers and hotdogs if you want to take it to whole other level”

Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆

Serves 6 – 8

INGREDIENTS:

5 large red onions, finely sliced

1 handful freshly chopped parsley

3 tbsp butter

1 tbsp olive oil

3 tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 tbsp brown sugar

Pinch of salt

Pinch of black pepper

Pinch of cayenne pepper

Squeeze of lemon/lime juice

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

METHOD:

Step One:

In a large frying pan over medium heat, add the 2 tbsp of butter and 1 tbsp of olive oil and let it come up to temperature. Add the finely sliced onions, parsley, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper, and combine until evenly mixed in the frying pan. Reduce heat to low, stirring occasionally, letting the onions cook down and reduce for about 20 minutes.

Final Step:

After 20 minutes, add your balsamic vinegar, sugar, and lemon/lime juice to the onions, mix well, and let it simmer for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until the onions are translucent and takes on a golden brown colour.

Enjoy!
